NetAlly® RealTime Comprehensive Performance Assurance for Converged Networks
Overview
NetAlly RealTime is a comprehensive network performance management solution that addresses the growing need for assuring an optimal fit between real-time applications and network performance. Its goal is to enable network managers to effectively assess, monitor and troubleshoot their converged networks.
This solution incorporates a breakthrough "holistic-network" methodology that dramatically improves the network professional's ability to maintain reliable, high-performance converged networks and networked applications. The methodology combines active dist-ributed network monitoring and testing with passive data collection. The system concentrates on monitor-ring the network-dependent performance of real-time applications and services, and offers unprecedented facilities for rapidly isolating the source of impeded network function.
Benefits of NetAlly RealTime
Comprehensive performance assurance.
NetAlly RealTime provides comprehensive intelligence about the performance levels of networked applications and services. This is achieved with the unique combination of active application traffic capabilities – which monitor and test actual applications and servers – with the concurrent collection of passive performance-related information from network components such as IP-PBXs and gate-ways. The result:
Preemptive discovery (prediction) of network faults and performance anomalies
A user perspective of network behavior
On-demand, real-time network testing (manual or automatically-triggered)
Effective pre- and post-deployment testing, including QoS, for VoIP and IP videoconferencing
Easy configuration and operation
A user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) and an extensive Test Directory supplied with NetAlly RealTime make it easy to start running actual tests within minutes of installing the system. Powerful report generation features include pre-configured management reports and Web browser access to all reports.
Real-time verification to the end-user desktop A user-friendly graphical user interface (GUI) and pre-defined "test templates" supplied with NetAlly OpSuite make it easy to start running actual tests within minutes of installing the system.
Web-based NetRegard agents allow almost-immediate performance testing to the end-user desktop without the time or expense needed to deploy physical resources or to install software.
NetAlly RealTime is a network performance verification system that uses a central Test Center to communicate with and control any number of software-based Traffic Agents and Cisco SAAs located throughout the network or WAN. In addition, Web-based Traffic Agents allow any computer to serve as a Traffic Agent in many troubleshooting situations.
NetAlly's Traffic Agents send each other a variety of network traffic packets, including emulation of real-time applications like RTP and VoIP. These traffic streams are analyzed and used to generate network performance reports. For each active stream, a MOS (Mean Opinion Score) metric is calculated, representting end-user-perceived VoIP call quality. Furthermore, packets of additional application protocols may be generated, to measure effects of real-time applications on other network applications and vice versa.
NetAlly RealTime can also import network performance data from network devices and transform it into quality metrics which indicate how end users experience the converged network application. Thus, NetAlly can even generate MOS scores from measurements taken from IP-PBX equipment.
NetAlly RealTime's unique ability to combine passive measurements taken from network equipment with the results of manufactured application-specific network traffic provides important advantages:
Ongoing performance verification. NetAlly RealTime continuously tracks and verifies the network's performance as it impacts converged applications and services. This allows the network manager to increase company productivity through the early detection of potential network problems, and their effect on end-users.
Drill-down troubleshooting capabilities. On-demand generation of actual network traffic allows the network manager to rapidly isolate the sources of network performance degradation, from servers all the way to the end-user's desktop. This is not just end-to-end verification of the problems, but rather also End-Through-EndŽ diagnosis into the components causing the degradation.
